Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) is a member of antibiotic drug group. It has productive properties in fighting bacteria in human organism. Dosage
The dosage and treatment period of Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) is different, depending on what disease is being treated with this drug. Here we have listed a dosage and time scheduling information for treatment of some disease in adult body. For treatment of Acne; Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) should be applied orally for 14 days, two doses per day, one dose should be 500mg. For Bronchitis treating; one dose is 500 mg orally applied every 6 hours for 7 to 10 days. Brucellosis treatment; one dose is 500 mg applied orally 4 times a day for 3 weeks. Needs to be taken with streptomycin at the first week 1g IM two times per day and at second week 1g IM once a day. Chlamydia Infection treatment dosage depends on kind and severity of disease; 500 mg dose should be taken orally 4 times a day for at least one week. Helicobacter pylori Infection; one dose 500 mg, apply orally every 6 hours for two weeks in combination with bismuth, metronidazole, and an H2 blocker. Lyme Disease – Arthritis; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 14 to 30 days, depending on the nature and severity of the infection. Lyme Disease – Carditis; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 14 to 30 days, depending on the nature and severity of the infection. Lyme Disease – Erythema Chronicum Migrans; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 10 to 30 days, depending on the nature and severity of the infection. Lyme Disease – Neurologic; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 21 to 30 days, depending on the nature and severity of the infection. Pneumonia; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 10 to 21 days depending on severity of infection. Rickettsial Infection; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 7 days. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 7 to 10 days, depending on severity of the infection. Psittacosis; 500 mg orally 4 times a day at least 10 to 14 days; initial treatment with IV doxycycline. Ornithosis; 500 mg orally 4 times a day 10 to 14 days; Syphilis – Early; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 14 days; alternatively, 30 to 40 g in divided doses over a period of 10 to 15 days. Syphilis – Latent; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 28 days; alternatively, 30 to 40 g in divided doses over a period of 10 to 15 days. Tertiary Syphilis; 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 28 days.
Precautions
Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) is prohibited to use by pregnant consumers. This drug is able cause some harm to the unborn baby. Also if such patient is taking any birth control pills Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) will make these pills less effective. This medication is also can pass into the breast milk and may negatively affect on development of bone and tooth in a nursing baby. Do not apply this medication without consulting with doctor if the patient is breast-feeding a baby or pregnant. Applying this medicine by children under 8 years old is strictly prohibited. Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) can cause the teeth yellowing or graying, and it may unsafely affect on child’s growth. Current medication also can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight. This medication will interact if applied with following drugs; cholesterol-lowering medications such as cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran) or colestipol (Colestid); isotretinoin (Accutane); tretinoin (Renova, Retin-A, Vesanoid); an antacid such as Tums, Rolaids, Milk of Magnesia, Maalox, bismuth subsalicylate such as Pepto-Bismol; minerals such as iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and vitamin and mineral supplements; a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); Amoxil, Trimox, penicillin (BeePen-VK, Pen-Vee K, Veetids), dicloxacillin (Dynapen), carbenicillin (Geocillin), oxacillin (Bactocill). Do not take this medication without consulting with doctor and do not apply it in larger amounts, or for longer than recommended by doctor time.
Side effects
As a most drugs Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) may cause some unwanted side effects. Here we are going to list some of them. While taking this drug the emergency medical attention will be necessary if the patient observes any of following symptoms; Increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight (rare with minocycline), Abdominal pain, bulging fontanel (soft spot on head) of infants, headache, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, visual changes, yellowing skin.
Missed dose
Tetracycline (Tetracycline Hydrochloride) medication should be applied carefully! If the dose has been missed it can be applied in case if it is noticed not long ago from applying time and if it is approximately a time to apply next dosage the missed portion should be skipped. If it is overdosed, immediately call a medical help!
