Lasix (Furosemide)
General information. Lasix (furosemide) is a diuretic drug, that makes the adult organism to reduce the absorption of too much salt, and makes the salt to not settle in the body and pass in urine to deduce from organism with urination. Lasix (furosemide) is being successfully used for treating such illnesses as fluid retention (edema) in adult organisms which are suffering from congestive heart failure, liver disease and kidney problems such as nephrotic syndrome. Dosage. Every patient should have individual treatment therapy with Lasix (furosemide) medicine to clarify minimal needed dose. The initial dose of Lasix (furosemide) medicine for adult patients is usually 20 to 80 mg that is considered to apply as a single dose. If necessary this dose can be increased and applied after 6 or 8. The dose should be increased to 20 or 40 mg and applied not earlier than 6 to 8 hours past from taking previous dose until the needed diuretic effect has been reached. The single dosage must be clarified individually for patient given no more than twice a day (at 8 am and 2 pm). In special cases the dosage can be reconsidered up to 600 mg per day in patients with clinically severe edematous states. To make the edema safely resolve a Lasix (furosemide) drug should be applied from 2 to 4 consecutive dayseach week.
Precautions. During Lasix (furosemide) therapy patient should not do any sharp moves, especially sharply getting up from a sitting or lying position. Such moves should be done smoothly and slowly to prevent a fall. Be aware of dehydration! Strictly follow health care specialist’s instructions about the amount of liquids that are should be applied during treatment with Lasix (furosemide).
Side effects. During clinical researches the drug Lasix (furosemide) did not demonstrate frequency appearing side effects, but as any other medicine it may provide a list of rare appearing unwanted side effects such as: chest pain, chills, cough or hoarseness, fever, general feeling of tiredness or weakness, headache, lower back or side pain, painful or difficult urination, shortness of breath, sore throat, sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth, swollen or painful glands, tightness in the chest, unusual bleeding or bruising, unusual tiredness or weakness, wheezing. If the patient observes any of listed side effects while treatment with Lasix (furosemide) or they appear immediate medical intervention will be necessary.
Missed dose. Pretty often Lasix (furosemide) is used only once, so there is may not be on a dosing schedule. But in case if there is some periodicity on taking the medication, the missed dose should be applied as soon as remembered. And if it is a time for taking next scheduled dose, the missed dosage should be skipped. Do not take extra portion of this medicine to catch up the missed dose.
